OUR FOUNDER

ALICE BENNETT

Chief Executive Officer
Executive Director

I won my first drawing contest when I was in third grade. Since then I have grown to enjoy and appreciate all mediums and other aspects of the arts. Music is my absolute favorite. I once owned a bass guitar. I am a self-labeled amateur photographer. I love dance and the theater, and I am always happy to paint and sip when time allows. Once upon a time in other chapters of my life I sang in church and community choirs and was part of an African dance group. I believe the arts help create community by bringing people together on one common accord.

Research also shows art is good for our mental and physical health, especially as we age, and that people like to be entertained and will pay when the entertainment is good. So, why not produce and provide the audience with a stellar artistic experience and use the funds raised from their donations to help others advance in their lives and/or careers by providing scholarships to advance their education while also supporting the arts. This is why Take II was formed…

Since leaving the “for-profit” corporate world over 20 years ago, I have worked in some capacity where I’ve tried to empower others. Whether it was through advocacy as a community organizer and lawyer, being of service to those in need by organizing clothing, food and voter registrations drives, volunteering as a big sister for Big Brothers and Big Sisters, being an advocate to victims of domestic violence and rape, or by supporting those living with and impacted by those diagnosed with HIV&AIDS, I have always tried to give back to the community in which I lived. My vision and the work of Take II is just an extension of what I do and who I am at my core, a creative thinker and art lover, an advocate and servant seeking to empower and help others.
